Remains of Jamey Holyoak, missing since 2022, identified in San Juan County

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office announced that skeletal remains discovered on Sept. 11 have been identified as those of Jamey Eugene Holyoak, who was reported missing in April 2022.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed the remains were identified them through dental records. Holyoak’s next of kin have been notified.

Authorities have not released the manner of death or the location within San Juan County where the remains were discovered. The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation is ongoing and no further details are currently available.

Holyoak was last seen on April 15, 2022, riding a bike in La Sal. He was reported missing on Sept. 28, but no trace of Holyoak was found despite searches.

“The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our condolences to the Holyoak family at this time,” the agency said in a press release.

The discovery brings closure to more than three years of uncertainty for Holyoak’s family, who had asked the community for help in locating him, as the Moab Sun News’ original 2022 coverage of the family’s search efforts details.

The Moab Sun News will provide updates as soon as officials release more information about the cause of death or the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
