In memory of Dorothy Mae Walden

October 30, 1930 – September 17, 2025

Dorothy Mae (Trowbridge) Walden passed into eternity in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 17, 2025. She passed away peacefully from age-related natural causes at the Moab Regional Hospital. She was 94 years old.

Dorothy was born in Brownwood, Texas, on October 30, 1930. She was a long time resident of Moab, having moved the family there from Brownwood, Texas with her husband, Holly (HR) Walden, around 1958.

Her early life was lived in and around Brownwood, where she was loved and cherished by her parents and brothers. She married Holly Ray Walden on July 1, 1949. They had 3 children in Texas before moving to Moab, adding another child in Cortez, Colorado; and another in Moab.

The entire family loved the outdoors and spent many weekends camping, fishing, hunting and anything else that got them outside in the spectacular Moab area.

Dorothy’s interests were mostly family-oriented. She was an accomplished seamstress and often crocheted items for their home or as gifts. She was a great camp cook who could bake cakes and bread in a dutch oven. We remember her apple dumplings, giblet gravy, fresh homemade bread, assorted canned items, and much more. Our home was full of love and laughter, mostly generated by her infectious wit and positive outlook about life.

Each one of us kids thought we were her favorite. She cherished our father. When asked what she would have changed she did not think of herself but said she “wished Holly could have lived longer.”

She is survived by her 5 children, Franklin Earl Walden, Ray Lynn Walden (Charlotte), Sandra Kay Norton (Alan), Larry Neil Walden (Anne) and Ira Dan Walden; her grandchildren, Trinity Wayne Norton, Matthew Aaron Walden, (Leander, Texas), Benjamin Travis Norton (Liberty Hill, Texas), Steven Ray Walden (Jonestown, Texas), Amanda Leigh Walden, Stephanie Anne Groves (Albuquerque, New Mexico), Eric Lee Walden (Battle Mountain, Nevada), HR Tyler Walden, and John Nelson Walden; as well as seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their family members who knew her as Aunt Dot.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Holly Ray Walden; her parents, Elbert Earl Trowbridge and Steva Mae Trowbridge; and her 5 brothers, Walter LC, Curtis, RD, Bo, and Joe Dean.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Jay Walden, and a great-granddaughter, Elexa Genesis VanArsdol.

There will be a graveside service on Thursday, September 25 at 11 a.m. at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Moab. There will also be a Celebration of Life Service later this year when family members can attend.

Family and friends are invited to share tributes online at SpanishValleyMortuary.com.
