Moab’s Margaret L. Hopkin Middle School is proud to announce Owen Weissinger and Ellie Cornelius as the April Students of the Month. These two outstanding students exemplify the values of curiosity, kindness, dedication, and leadership both in and out of the classroom.
Owen Weissinger, our seventh-grade Student of the Month, is an exceptional scholar with a quiet but powerful presence. Known for his curiosity and self-driven approach to learning, Owen consistently takes the initiative in the classroom. He sets high goals for himself, follows through with determination, and always produces high-quality work. Whether he’s diving into math—especially geometry—or launching model rockets, Owen brings a thoughtful focus to everything he does.
He’s an active member of the Honor Society and Quiz Bowl, and he’s also got some cool extracurricular interests: playing Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, learning languages on Duolingo (which, fun fact, once offered him a five-year cruise!), and enjoying video games. Teachers describe him as a respectful leader who can always be counted on to stay on task and uplift those around him. Owen’s advice to fellow students is simple but wise: “Always be respectful.”

Ellie Cornelius, our eighth-grade Student of the Month, brings positive energy and academic excellence to every class. She arrives prepared, participates fully, and sets a strong example for her peers. Ellie holds herself to a high standard—not just in pursuit of good grades, but out of a genuine desire to understand and contribute. Her teachers especially commend her consistent effort in Science, where she’s maintained an impressive level of engagement all year.
Outside of school, Ellie is active and artistic—she’s an avid mountain biker and a dedicated ballet dancer. She dreams of a career in the medical field and hopes to travel the world, with New Zealand and Italy topping her must-see list. Her favorite colors are purple and orange, and her advice to others reflects her own driven mindset: “Always work hard because it always pays off.”
Congratulations to Owen and Ellie for being true standouts at MLHMS!
