In Memory of Dorothy Jean Stocks-Gough

April 5, 1944 – March 22, 2025

Dorothy Jean Stocks-Gough, nearly 81, passed away suddenly on March 22, 2025. A lifelong resident of Moab, Dorothy dedicated much of her life to serving her community as the Grand County Assessor. However, her greatest passion was always her family.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorothy served faithfully in many capacities including as a teacher, in the nursery, the library, and as a member of the Relief Society. Her faith and service to others were a guiding light in her life, and she touched countless hearts with her kindness and generosity.

Dorothy was a sweet, giving soul who poured her love into raising her four children and later played a vital role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Roland “Skeeter” Stocks; her mother, Eola Elizabeth Graham-Stocks; her siblings, Lilly Mae Stocks-Noorlander, Thomas Albert Stocks, Mary Ester Stocks-Martin, and Bonnie Lew Stocks-Hammer; and her grandson, Devin James St Clair.

Dorothy is survived by her siblings, Connie Lee Stocks-Dick, Carol Ruth Stocks-Mozaffari, Alan Edwin Stocks, and Alene Elizabeth Stocks-Inman; her children, Edward L. Gough (Jeri MacAdams), Carol Jean Gough, Ronald Lee Gough (Penny LeRee Gough), and Cheryl Lynne Gough-Zwahlen (Phillip Joseph Zwahlen); her longest and best friend, Merlene Mosher-Dalton; as well as twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary (386 North 100 West, Moab).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at the Moab LDS Stake Center (701 Locust Lane) with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately after the funeral. Following the graveside service, family and close friends are invited to gather for a meal in her honor.
