Congrats to Kalan Bowden and Tianna Lazaro, GCHS Students of the Month

Grand County High School is proud to recognize its exceptional Students of the Month for March 2025: Kalan Bowden and Tianna Lazaro.

Kalan, son of Kevin and Crystal Bowden, has made his mark at GCHS through both academics and athletics. His favorite class is Mr. Black’s marketing course, where he particularly enjoys the hands-on projects. Physics with Mrs. Irvin ranks as a close second.

A natural leader, Kalan serves as Honor Society President while balancing participation in baseball, golf, basketball, and DECA. His community involvement extends to Moab Junior Golf and Beacon.

Kalan’s entrepreneurial spirit is evident in his work experience. For two years, he has worked with Moab City Recreation as part of the field crew and as an umpire. Taking initiative to the next level, he launched his own pool maintenance company last year.

After graduation, Kalan plans to attend Southern Utah University to study business.

The valuable lesson he’ll take from high school? “Try and make the best out of things you don’t want to do.”

His advice to underclassmen reflects his mature perspective: “Apply yourself and don’t take it for granted.”

Tianna, daughter of Cheryl Pinon, approaches education with enthusiasm and diverse interests. Her favorite classes include woodworking, architectural design, robotics, and calculus, combining her passion for hands-on learning with her natural aptitude for mathematics.

Actively involved in school organizations, Tianna has participated in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America for three years, National Honor Society for two years, and recently joined SkillsUSA. She also engages with the Native Club when possible, demonstrating her commitment to experiencing all that high school has to offer.

Tianna’s impressive work ethic began early—she has been employed since seventh grade and currently manages two jobs, having maintained one position for approximately five years.

Following graduation, Tianna will relocate to Milwaukee to pursue a career in engineering.

Her high school experience has taught her that “we can do our work and have fun too. Not only is the goal important but how you reach the goal is too.”

She advises younger students: “Don’t just bide your time before you get out of school, join a club, take a class you enjoy.”

Congratulations to both Kalan and Tianna!
