Cosmo’s Cookie Corner

Meow and hello from your pal Cosmo the Library Cat.  I just learned that December 4th is “National Cookie Day.” How have I been unaware of this crucially important holiday until now? If you’re like me, and always looking for ways to grow as a cookie-connoisseur, Grand County Public Library has some great baking cookbooks with all sorts of amazing cookie recipes for you!

I recommend the aptly-named “The Cookie Bible” which has a splendid range of cookie recipes, from classic and simple to super-fancy. “Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook” is deliciously stimulating, but “Baking with Kim-Joy: Cute and Creative Bakes to Make You Smile” really did make me smile. Kim-Joy seems to properly appreciate the beauty of the feline form in her creations: check out the Macaron “Meows” and “Purr-maids” on page 120, for example!

For those of you avoiding gluten, you can still celebrate National Cookie Day using recipes from “Gluten-Free Baking: Delectable From-Scratch Sweet and Savory Treats,” and “The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook: Revolutionary Techniques, Groundbreaking Recipes.”

And if you’re really looking to elevate your cookie-decorating skills, fresh inspiration awaits you in the library’s online resource CreativeBug, with fun, seasonally-appropriate instructional videos on icing and decorating these delicacies, as well as just about every other creative endeavor you can think of. Visit www.catalog.moablibrary.org and click on CreativeBug from the “Resources” tab and log in or set up an account with your library card, and create away! (I’d love to see what you make, if you ever feel like coming to show me!)

Happy National Cookie Day everyone, thanks for celebrating with me!
