Moab History: Radium King Mine

The Radium King Mine, located in the Red Canyon Mining District in San Juan County, Utah, is encompassed within the current boundaries of the Bears Ears National Monument. It was owned by Atlas Minerals Corp. during the time of its operation, when miners extracted uraninite, pyrite, and chalcocite ores from the Chinle Formation (Shinarump Member). These miners ride ore carts out of the uranium mine, as pictured here, on their way to deposit the material for sorting and processing.
