In memory of Meldon “Dean” Chapman

June 11, 1940 – October 7, 2024

Meldon “Dean” Chapman passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2024, at the age of 84. Dean was born in Provo, Utah, on June 11, 1940, to Meldon Wright Chapman and Loretta Belle (Lea) Wickham.

He attended Granite High School, where he enjoyed participating and competing on the swim team. He had the pleasure of owning various wrecking yards over the years, where he was considered a walking encyclopedia on cars and car parts. Later, he worked at Chip’s Grand Tire, Nation’s Towing, and most recently at Farm and City. But what he loved doing most was spending time with family, hunting, camping, fishing, and all things automotive.

Dean is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janeen (Babcock) Chapman; daughters, Becky (Jeff) Mellor, Robyn Chapman, Jennifer (Ryan) Scovill, and Ronnie (Mike) McCurdy; sons, Troy (Suzy) Chapman, Shane Chapman, Justin (Tammy) Haviland, Shawn (Tammy) Chapman, Daniel (Hesper) Chapman; sister Shirley Stewart; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dean is preceded in death by his father Meldon Chapman, mother Loretta Wickham, brothers Ronnie Chapman and Don Wickham; and his daughter, Kelly Jean Chapman.

A potluck celebration of life will be held at Old City Park on October 26 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a memorial cruise around 1 p.m.: bring your hotrod, motorcycle or daily driver to honor Dean.

In place of flowers, donations may be made to Dean Chapman at Mountain America Credit Union or Venmo @Janeen-Chapman
