Grand County High School principal departs after state discovers license issue

Grand County High School Principal Todd Thompson was dismissed from his position at the Grand County School District immediately on May 2, after the Utah State Board of Education discovered that he failed to disclose that his teaching certificate had been suspended in South Carolina.

Thompson joined the school district in 2022, while he was still under a one-year order of suspension ordered by the South Carolina Board of Education. Thompson had signed a contract to work for a district in that state for a year, but departed early and broke his agreement, leading to the censure. Thompson did not disclose the issue when he applied for a Utah State teaching license.

A letter from the Grand County School District said they will find “an excellent candidate to be GCHS’ next principal,” and despite the situation wished Thompson “the best of luck in the future.”
