In Memory of Audrey Galbraith

June 23, 1929—March 18, 2024

Our mother, Audrey Galbraith, was joyfully reunited in heaven with her husband and our father, Milton, on Monday, March 18, 2024—one day before their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Audrey was born in Burlington, Iowa, on June 23, 1929, to Fay and Elsie McKasson. She married Milton Galbraith in 1951, and they made a cross-country move to the uranium-rich boom town of Moab in 1954 with a one-year-old baby, Janet, in tow. The couple established Milt’s Stop and Eat on what was then the main highway. They owned and managed Milt’s for 27 years. Their second daughter, Diane, was born in Moab in 1955. During those days of Milt’s, patrons became friends and also extensions of the Galbraith family.

Mom was an extraordinary example of hard work, honesty, and boundless love of family (especially her grandchildren). As her health began to decline, it became necessary to move her to an assisted living community near family in the Denver area, where she resided for four years until her passing.

Our mother was truly an icon in the Moab community. She was especially known to townspeople and will be remembered for her three-mile daily walks from Tusher Street to downtown Moab and back. She began walking with two friends 50-plus years ago and continued solo for many years after her walking companions moved on. She was a member of the Community Church of Moab. Faith guided her throughout her life and in her final days.

She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Bisceglia of Hampton, New Hampshire, and Diane (Todd) Park of Lone Tree, Colorado; and five grandchildren, Bradley Kallsen, Bryan Park, Lindsey Shoemaker, Corinne McBrier, and Kyle Park. Ten great-grandchildren will cherish their memories of their GG Ma. She will be greatly missed but joyously remembered by her two sisters, Lois Close of Burlington, Iowa, and Mary (Carl) Wolkenhauer of Friendship, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton Galbraith; her three brothers, Paul, Charles, and Richard McKasson; as well as her parents.

Friends are invited to share in honoring her memory at the Community Church of Moab at 9am on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Private interment will follow at Grand Valley Cemetery.  A memory bench will be placed in her honor at the Information Center on Main Street.
