A Plea for Kane Creek

Another sleepless night and my stomach hurts. Is this a nightmare?? Who would dare put a strip mall in one of our beautiful canyons? No one who loves Moab. The river corridor from Dewey Bridge to the Potash plant should be a National Monument….it is that beautiful. Kane Creek should be at least a state park with all the petroglyphs from Moonflower Canyon to Birthing Rock. How can this happen? How can agreeing to a campground turn into a housing development? I would ask the developers to please reconsider. Donate the land to The Nature Conservancy and take a nice tax write-off or donate it to the state for a state park…name it after yourself and let your name live on.

We are the people who live in Moab. We are the healthcare workers, teachers, river guides, tour guides, waiters and waitresses, construction workers, police, fire persons, and EMS. We are the people who work at City Market and Village Market, at Point S and Grand Tire Pro, at the Potash Plant, and all the other businesses in Moab. We are the ordinary people who live and work in Moab year-round.

Kane Creek is dear to us and we are awed and inspired by the beauty. Some things in life are sacred and this is one of them. This development has broken our collective hearts.  What will it take to save Kane Creek? Who can help us?? Honestly, I would donate a kidney to anyone who can stop the development in Kane Creek.

Respectfully submitted,

Barb Crossan
