James Rodney Tibbetts passed away in Moab on November 30, 2023. His final days were spent surrounded by those he loved.
Rod was born in Moab on September 5, 1955, to Gail and Marilyn Tibbetts. He graduated from Grand County High School in 1973 and worked for USGS Water Resources until his retirement.
Rod loved being outdoors, camping and hunting with his family. His favorite place was the desert where he spent his childhood. The places and stories that he shared with his children and grandchildren will never be forgotten.
Rod is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith Tibbetts; daughter, Tracy (John) Martinez; stepdaughter, Sandy (Darrin) Tangren; stepson, Colby Izatt; his beloved grandchildren, Gracie, Rodney, Hannah, Cooper, Clara, Avery, and Parker; brothers, James (Wendy) Tibbetts and Gregg (Colleen) Tibbetts; sister, Tiffany (Jim) Gill; and nephews and nieces, Cody, Brittney, Dillon, Miranda, Cassidy, and Cade.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Jewel Tibbetts, Alva and Adolee Johnston; his parents, Gail and Marilyn Tibbetts; and brother, Tracy.
Funeral services for friends and family will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 11 a.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery to follow.
