Four people—North Dakota state senator Doug Larsen, his wife Amy, and their two children—died in a plane crash at the Canyonlands Airport on Sunday night.

According to a news release from the Grand County Sheriff’s office, deputies, Moab Fire Department personnel, and Emergency Medical technicians responded to the crash. When first responders arrived, the four had already died, according to the sheriff’s office. Larsen was piloting the private plane.

Their deaths were confirmed in an email from Republican Senate Majority Leader David Hogue, according to the Associated Press. The family had been visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, and had stopped to refuel in Moab. The National Transportation Safety Board said the crash of the plane is being investigated.
