May 30, 1947 – July 4, 2023
John Kenneth Brown passed away on July 4, 2023, in Magdalena, Mexico, with his partner, Cruz Maria “Mary” Malvido Lopez, by his side.
He was born May 30, 1947, to Albert Jefferson and Frankie Meador Brown in Sacramento, California.
John grew up in Moab and graduated from Grand County High School. After high school, he attended the College of Eastern Utah. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in the La Sal Mountains with his dad, brother and friends.
John met June Cash in Monticello while he was surveying for John Keogh. John and June were married on September 27, 1969. They had two daughters, Monica and Marchelle, known as “Shelly.”
John spent most of his career in the mining industry, through which eventually he ended up in Mexico. He lived there for the next 20+ years exploring old Spanish gold mines and other mining adventures.
John is survived by his daughters, Monica Brown (Lyman) Owens and Marchelle Brown (Clark) Nelson; granddaughter, Jerica Bennion; grandsons, Jalon, Braeden and Dakota Bennion, and Bryant and Oliver Nelson; three great-grandchildren; sister, Kathey (Jerry) McNeely; brother, Mike (Jan) Brown; partner, Mary, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Frankie Brown.
At John’s request, cremation has taken place in Mexico and his ashes will remain there in a place he loved. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date, and a bronze plaque in his memory will be placed next to his mom’s in the La Sal Mountains.
Rest in Peace John.
