Obituary: Nicole Renee Slighting

September 9, 1986–July 8, 2023

Loved by all who knew her, Nicole Renee Slighting returned home to her Heavenly Father on July 8, 2023. Nicole was a cherished mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed and the void she leaves will never be filled.

Nicole was born in Salt Lake City on September 9, 1986, to Dale and Melody Slighting and she was the light of their lives. Nicole had the biggest laugh in any room and took particular delight in perpetrating pranks on countless, unwitting victims. Nicole lived life passionately, was deeply spiritual, and loved to travel to foreign countries and experience new places. From an early age, Nicole spent many nights camping and fishing with her parents, cultivating a love and appreciation for being outdoors which she carried into adulthood. Later in her life, Nicole found that she enjoyed photography and used much of her time outdoors developing that talent.

Nicole was curious about the world around her and she was a life-long learner. Nicole earned an associate degree from Utah State University in 2022, an accomplishment of which she was justifiably proud. Nicole was also a graduate of drug court and was proud of her efforts to attain sobriety. Her family is proud of her for choosing to fight addiction and takes comfort in the thought that she has been freed from that struggle. Certainly, Nicole would want others to learn from her struggles and she is undoubtedly cheering from Heaven for anyone who is battling addiction yet refusing to give into it.

Above all else, Nicole loved her family. Her daughter, Ella Renee Slighting (age 15), and her son, Jace Brantley Robbins (age 9), were the reason she fought for her sobriety; they were the reason she worked hard as a dental assistant; they were the reason she aspired to more education; they were her everything. Ella and Jace were the loves of her life.

While Nicole will be missed dearly by the family and friends she leaves behind, they take solace in the undoubtedly sweet reunion she is enjoying with family on the other side of the veil, including her mother and grandparents.

Nicole is survived by her daughter, Ella Renee Slighting; her son, Jace Brantley Robbins; her father, Dale Jay Slighting; her sister, Taylor Louise Slighting; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Nicole was preceded in death by her mother, Melody Slighting (Serrano); and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19 at the LDS Chapel (400 North 475 West). A viewing will precede the funeral services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
