Meow and hello friends, it’s Cosmo the library cat. While making my daily rounds, I noticed that the Grand County Public Library has a bit of a problem—too many new books!
The “New” shelves are overflowing and librarians are stacking new books all over my favorite counter perches. Even worse, they’re so busy putting “New” stickers on book covers they don’t have time to give me my usual number of pets and compliments when I walk by. The situation is dire, but you can help. Come by the Grand County Library and check out some new books.
Adults will find new non-fiction on everything from owls to Jimi Hendrix. Or check out a brand-new novel from authors both award-winning and totally-unknown and soon-to-be-your-favorite!
Kids will like “Swashby and the Sea,” a story about a grumpy, retired sea captain who gradually develops a close friendship with his new neighbors–despite his initial efforts to keep them away. This heartwarming picture book is written by Beth Ferry and illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal.
“Reptiles and Amphibians” by Chris Mattison is a great educational book, full of colorful pictures and information about numerous types of reptiles and amphibians. I found the lizards to be especially relatable, with their long tails and fondness for napping in the sun.
“The Woman Who Won Things” is a fun, fast-moving early chapter book written by Allan Ahlberg, with adorable illustrations by Katherine McEwen. This book follows the adventures of the Gasket family, and their adorable cat Horace.
For older kids, the middle grade fiction book “Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies,” by Stacey Lee, involves an engaging mix of magic, adventure, and Chinese folklore.
Stop by the library or browse online to check out our collection of new books for yourself! And don’t go home without checking out at least three.
