Cosmo’s Corner: Reading all together

Cosmo photoshopped to look like he's reading a book.

Hello everyone, it’s your pal, Cosmo the Library Cat. Summer is almost here and that means the Grand County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will start soon! This year’s theme, “All Together Now,” is particularly wonderful because I’m walking proof that when we focus on kindness, friendship and unity great things are possible!

The Summer Reading Program runs from June 5 through August 13 and is designed for all ages, from little babies to great-grandmas and grandpas! Registering is super easy using the Beanstack app or website at tinyurl.com/gcplreads, and everyone gets a prize just for signing up!

After that, any time you spend reading this summer will earn you virtual badges, tickets toward awesome prize drawings, as well as reading rewards for the young folks. In addition to print books, you can also count the time you spend reading ebooks, magazines, comic books, newspaper articles (like this one!) or even listening to audiobooks. Reading aloud counts twice! Once for the reader and once for the listener.

The librarians are also super excited about the fun Summer Reading events they’ve planned for each week during June and July. Our first event will be a Pop-In Popsicle Social! On Friday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. we’ll welcome library friends of all ages at the Center Street Ballpark with yummy popsicles, a bubble machine, a dance for the little kids, and sidewalk chalk painting. Do you feel excited about summer now? If you do, say “Meow!” all together. Ready? One, two, three, MEOW!!
