Grand County Public Schools went into temporary lockdown today after a hoax call about a potential active shooter was received.

“There have been multiple swatting/hoax calls throughout the country, and in the State of Utah today,” a statement from Moab Police Department Chief Jared Garcia stated. “At this time, we do not believe there is a current threat to our students or community related to this hoax.”

Law enforcement officials stressed that all reports of potential violence are taken seriously. Schools in Odgen, Provo and Salt Lake City, among others, also went into lockdown after receiving hoax calls.
