A Grand County High School student died on the afternoon of Feb. 28 after a crash on Highway 191, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The death was confirmed by the Grand County School District.
17-year-old Elexa VanArsdol, known as Lexi, was identified as the victim by family members.
“The school community is grieving with the family and will provide love and support in any way we can, including having therapists available at school tomorrow,” a district statement reads.
This is another blow to a community already grieving GCHS senior Zoe Afton Thompson McKinney, who died in an accidental fall while hiking on February 10.
Reports of the accident state that VanArsdol was driving northbound before striking a 3500 Ram pickup towing a gooseneck trailer driving in the opposite direction. She was fatally injured, while a passenger, reportedly her brother, and the driver of the pickup sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by KSL.
