Quilt Guild members stitch with love for local newborns

Ledger John Helquist was born on January 10, 2023, and was the first Grand County newborn to receive a special, handmade baby blanket from caring community members this year. The son of Shailee and Treyton Helquist was born at Moab Regional Hospital, which received a number of handmade quilts from the Delicate Stitchers Quilt Guild, along with the Arches New Hope Pregnancy Center.

The Delicate Stitchers Quilt Guild 2022 President Crystal Day created the charity project to create the quilts last year and guild members carefully made 27 individual quilts. “It proved to be a fun opportunity to provide new babies and their families with a special gift,” the guild said in a press release.

Guild members were met at Moab Regional Hospital by Director of Marketing & Community Relations Christy Calvin and MRH Obstetrics team members who were happy to receive the blankets to wait for newborn community members. Arches New Hope Pregnancy Center Executive Director Jenni O’Guin welcomed guild members and happily accepted the quilts on behalf of their clients’ new babies.

The Delicate Stitchers Quilt Guild is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The guild meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Grand Center and one Saturday a month is spent sewing together.  New members are always welcome.
