Obituary: Marie Ranzenberger Maughan

Marie Ranzenberger Maughan passed away on November 16, 2022, in Moab, Utah. 

Marie was born on May 7, 1931, in Logan, Utah, to Jack and Elvina Ranzenberger. She graduated from North Cache High School in 1949. She married Val Larsen Maughan on June 1, 1950, in Elko, Nevada. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple.

For 27 years, Marie worked at Miller’s grocery store in Moab as head cashier before working at Atlas Minerals for nine years, first in purchasing and then in payroll. She prepared the last paychecks before they shut down. She then worked at First Security Bank for 6 years until she retired in 1991. 

Marie enjoyed cross stitching and baking, most commonly her famous “Turtles.” She was also active in the Lady Elks where she and Val would travel to Elks functions all over the country.

She volunteered at the Monticello LDS Temple weekly for 17 ½ years until she was released in 2022. She is survived by a son, Bryan (Tammy) Maughan of Moab; a daughter, Cheryl (Stan) Lewis of Smithfield; three grandchildren, Cody (Kerri) Toolson of Kuna, Idaho; Rachelle (Kham) Thanadabout of Hyrum; and Bradley (Sheree) Maughan of Moab. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Janice Dowd of Smithfield; Charlene (Ron) Shrade of San Diego, California; Jay (Nadine) Ranzenberger of Providence; and Lyle Ranzenberger of Smithfield; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Val; and one sister, Ramona.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center on Locust Lane. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 25 from 6 to 8  p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary and from 10 to 10:45 prior to the service. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery on Spanish Valley Drive.

Marie leaves behind a community of friends and family, she will be greatly missed by many. We are so thankful for all the support that has been shown to our family.
