Kevin Doyle Denney, age 65, passed away on July 28, 2022, in Oakley, Utah, from complications related to dementia.
Kevin was born on August 27, 1956, in Moab to Venice Denney and Gloria McDougall Denney. He had an adventurous childhood exploring Mill Creek, Sand Flats and the La Sal Mountains.
He met Jan Florence at Utah State University in Logan, and they were married on March 17, 1977, in Moab. They were blessed with two sons, Nicholas Kevin and Steven Craig. Kevin was a proud “Gramps” to grandsons Connor and Johnny and to his bonus grandson, Ryelan Jones.
Kevin was an enthusiastic sports fan. He spent much of his youth playing sports and, as an adult, he enjoyed watching collegiate and professional sports. While raising his sons, he was a Little League baseball coach for several years, beloved by many players.
Kevin was happiest when he could spend time in the natural world. His favorite activities included hiking in the red rock canyons, rock hounding, hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, and cross-country skiing. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, he became involved in the construction and maintenance of wildlife guzzlers (water catchments) for the Utah Division of Natural Resources. He was very passionate about desert bighorn sheep and their habitat in the area surrounding Moab.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, his niece, Jenny Custer; and his dearly loved grandson, Connor Denney.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Jan; his sons, Nicholas and Steven; his cherished grandson, Johnathon Denney; his honorary grandson, Ryelan Jones; his siblings, Kenny Denney, Karie Watson and Kelly (Rochell) Denney; and many nephews and nieces that he held dear to his heart.
The family would like to acknowledge Davy Stewart for his friendship, kindness and compassion during the final years of Kevin’s life.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
