Meow-lo everyone, it’s Cosmo the Library Cat. It’s back-to-school time here in Moab. I am a big fan of school. Yay learning! However, I know the beginning of the school year can be a challenging time, especially for children who have never gone before. Luckily, here at Grand County Public Library, we have plenty of books to get kids in the mood for school. One of my favorites is “Lena’s Shoes Are Nervous.” Lena wants to go to kindergarten, but she has to convince her anxious shoes to come along. I spend a lot of time convincing my toys not to be nervous about thunder, so I found this story incredibly relatable.
I also really like “Chu’s First Day of School.” This book is full of adorable animal characters who go to school for the first time. I don’t want to spoil the ending but I will tell you that at least one panda makes some new friends. “How Do Dinosaurs Go to School” discusses helpful tips for going to school. The illustrations in this one are fantastic. Who knew enormous dinosaurs could be so cute?!
Speaking of cute, “Splat the Cat” is about an adorable black cat and his first day at Cat School. While I never went to Cat School (I’m self-taught), the book has some good lessons for us all about tolerance, especially towards mice. I highly recommend it! The librarians will be putting some of their favorite back-to-school books on display in the Children’s Room this week so stop by and see what we have! Meow for now!
