Long-time Moab resident Robert (Bob) Davenport passed on June 15, 2022. Bob was born to Paul and Clara Davenport on March 5, 1947, in Hyannis, Massachusetts and moved to Moab in August of 1975.
Bob planned on being a truck driver, but after driving up the steep hills and rugged terrain in the area he decided it was not the career for him. He was given the opportunity to work in a truck repair shop, where he found a natural ability and learned all the aspects of repairing trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. Bob was a hard worker and opened Southside Repair Service, which he operated for over 30 years while he also worked for the Grand County Road Department. You could always find him in the shop on evenings and weekends. During that time, he was very dedicated, extremely honest, fair-dealing almost to a fault, and would not quit until the job was done.
Bob is survived by his wife, Clara; his daughter, Polly Reavis; his stepchildren, Randy, Rochell, and Ryan; his grandchildren, Bobby, Katelyn, Jason, Mariah, Samantha, Michael, Megan, Brianna, and Tristan; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Pat Abbot and Carol Ann Boyd.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Bobbi Dee; his parents; his brothers, Bennie and Paul; and his sister, Cathleen.
At Bob’s request cremation has taken place and graveside services were held on June 22 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand County Food Bank (call 435-259-6456) or to Community Nursing Services Home Health & Hospice (www.cns-cares.org/donate) in Bob’s name.
