The City of Moab announced hiring Annie McVay as the city’s new Parks, Recreation and Trails director, effective on June 14. The role oversees the management and development of all city parks, as well as supervising the recreation department, the Moab Arts and Recreation Center, the Moab Aquatic and Recreation Center and the Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission.

“We are excited to have her lead parks, recreation and trails, and to expand these services to our community,” said Moab City Manager Joel Linares in a press release.

McVay holds a master’s degree in natural resource and recreation planning from Arizona State University. She worked for Arizona State Parks in a variety of capacities including state trails coordinator and as a statewide planner. Recently, she served as Parks and Administration Divisions manager for Redmond, Oregon, for seven years.

“During her time with Arizona State Parks, her work primarily focused on bringing together user groups, government agencies, and the public to discuss and implement trail and recreation needs statewide,” the City of Moab press release stated.

“Moab’s park system has many similarities to my previous position, I look forward to helping advance Moab’s park and recreation system,” McVay said. “I’ve spent the past seven years up in the Pacific Northwest and I’m eager to be back in the desert landscape.”
