The Moab Sun News welcomes Maggie McGuire as managing editor

The Moab Sun News is pleased to introduce our new managing editor, Maggie McGuire.

McGuire is originally from Detroit, where she managed digital communications and traditional media relations for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan and other nonprofits.

McGuire brings a wealth of experience, drawing on her years working with state and national news outlets for the ACLU of Michigan. She has an extensive background in media and communications, including professional photography, editing publications and producing documentary videos.

According to her, though, her real training began at home.

“A large part of my family works in media, stretching back to my great-grandfather who ran a newspaper,” she said. “It comes natural to me now.”

Both of McGuire’s parents reported for her hometown newspaper while she was growing up.

“I guess it’s in the blood,” she said.

Before settling down in Moab with her partner last year, McGuire was a part-time resident of Boulder, Utah for over a decade; she is familiar with the region and its current events.

“There’s a lot of national attention on our area these days,” she said, “and I’m committed to making those complicated issues clear and accessible.”

Moab Sun News Co-Publisher Heila Ershadi said she is thrilled to have McGuire on board. She said McGuire did great work as a freelancer for the paper prior to becoming managing editor, and that the Moab Sun News will benefit from McGuire’s excellent organization and “people skills.”

Likewise, McGuire said she is excited for her new position.

“I’m immensely proud to join the Moab Sun News family,” she said. “Local newspapers are crucial to a keeping communities together, and the commitment Heila and Kevin have shown here at the Moab Sun News is incredible. I couldn’t be more pleased to carry on that work.”
