Local nonprofit Friends of the Parkway hired a group of Moab Charter School (MCS) students raising money for a trip to Italy to remove invasive species from the Mill Creek corridor near 400 East.
Parent chaperone Danielle Skidmore said the students pulled kochia, vetch and tumbleweed to allow native plants to grow back along the creek bank.
Moab Solutions and Friends of the Parkway founder Sara Melnicoff said it was Friends of the Parkway volunteers Irene Neumeister and Lynette Clark who enlisted the students’ help. Melnicoff said she wanted Friends of the Parkway to pay the children for their work, as it fit with the nonprofit’s mission.
“It seemed like a win-win,” Melnicoff said. “I want to support their trip and the work on the parkway.”
