A man allegedly brandished a knife in a gas station south of Moab in the early morning hours of May 14 and demanded cigarettes.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office and the Moab Police Department responded to the area of the Shell gas station, 2420 Spanish Trail Rd., at 5:44 a.m. and located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Spanish Valley Drive and Beeman Road.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle as it traveled north onto U.S. Highway 191 before turning into a subdivision just north of the Old Spanish Trail Arena, a press release from the sheriff’s office said. The suspect vehicle then allegedly traveled onto Southgate Drive and then Willow Tree Road until it drove off the roadway and male suspect fled on foot. A short foot pursuit ended with male suspect taken into custody, officers reported. A female passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody without incident.
