The Grand County High School boys soccer team won Region 15 matches in Moab against North Sanpete 6-2 on Tuesday, March 19, and Emery 2-1 on Thursday, March 21, before beating Carbon 5-1 in a non-region match on Friday, March 22.
The Grand County High School Red Devils had three players score two goals apiece versus the Hawks to begin the week: Nolan Ramirez, Kane Scherer and Juan Gonzales.
Ramirez scored one of GCHS’s two goals versus Emery, while the game-winner was scored by freshman Arthur Hawks. Ramirez found the net twice more against Carbon, giving him five goals for the week and six for the season, while Scherer, Jose Tavares and Jameson Hawks each scored a goal versus the Dinos.
“Nolan Ramirez has put in some top class finishes,” said GCHS boys soccer coach Christopher Beitner, adding that other players’ goals were remarkable as well.
The Grand County High School (GCHS) Red Devils improved their record to 6-1, 3-0 in Region 15. GCHS was scheduled to play San Juan on Wednesday, March 27 in a region match in Moab. The Red Devils are also scheduled to play at Richfield on Thursday, March 28, and at Manti on Tuesday, April 2, in Region matches. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
“The boys have been playing very well,” Beitner said. “Any expectation I had of them coming into this season, they have far exceeded already.”
The baseball team beat Monticello 17-3 on Wednesday, March 20, behind four runs batted in from Trevin Packard and an eight-strikeout performance by Tyler Lindsay on the mound.
Their region struggles continued, however, as they were walloped in both games of a region doubleheader at Manti on Monday, March 25, losing the first game 12-1 in five innings, and the second game 19-5 in six innings. In the second game, five different players hit doubles for GCHS: Packard, Lindsay, Brody Williams, Macray Ellis and Brayden Cloud. Cloud had three of the Red Devils’ four hits in the first game. The GCHS Red Devils currently sit at 2-6, 0-4 in Region 15. They next play Richfield in a doubleheader in Moab on Friday, April 5.
