Red Rock 4-Wheelers gives back to Moab community

Recipients of the Red Rock 4-Wheelers annual charity donations were invited to the October meeting to receive funds — $26,750 was given to benefit local organizations. Red Rock 4-Wheelers club treasurer John Martin, president Mike Kelso and vice president Richard Mick presented checks to various organizations in the Moab community.

Standard annual donations totaling $10,000, were given to the following: Moab Police Department ($2,000); Grand County Search and Rescue ($2,000), Grand County Sheriff’s Office ($2,000), San Juan County Search and Rescue ($2,000); and the Moab Chamber of Commerce ($2,000).

“We appreciate the job they do for our community,” said Linda Brewer, Red Rock 4-Wheelers office manager.

Brewer said that in September, $10,000 was donated and divided among the families who lost their homes in the Cinema Court Fire in June.

Club members have favorite charities and submit donation requests annually, said Brewer.

For 2018, $7,750 went to nine local charities.

Grand County High School Red Devil swim team received a $500 donation and the Red Devil mountain bike team was given $1,500. The mountain bike team plans to use the money to purchase loaner bikes for those who may not be able to afford their own, Brewer said.

Grand Area Mentoring program was given $500, and Brewer noted the program is “always out front in helping the at-risk kids.”

Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo Club was given $2,000, while the Humane Society of Moab Valley received a $250 donation.

The Moab Health Care Foundation was given $2,000. The foundation will be helping with health care needs in the community, Brewer said.

And, $1,000 was given to benefit the Grand County Middle School’s fifth-graders trip to Boston, Massachusetts.

Finally, Red Rock 4-Wheelers made a commitment to purchase the poles and LED lights for a new parking area in front of the Old Spanish Trail Arena.
