A student browses a selection of children’s books in the Grand County Public Library’s Book Bike at its debut at the Moab Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 7. The library’s book bicycle is filled with free books for children and adults, courtesy of a partnership with Friends of the Grand County Public Library. Meg Flynn, head of adult services at the Grand County Public Library, said the Book Bike will be going on tour to many places in the community throughout the year. For now, it will be at the Moab Farmers’ Market each week throughout July beginning at 4 p.m. “The community’s response to the bike’s debut at last week’s market was very positive,” Flynn said. “Folks that stopped seemed to enjoy browsing the books and materials we had available. We gave away over 70 books and are planning to bring even more to the next event. We are so excited to start offering services outside the library building, and are looking forward to many more book bike adventures.” The book bicycle was secured through grant funding and built by Colorado-based Pedal Positive. Flynn said the library is open to suggestions from the community on where to take the book bicycle next. [Photo courtesy of Meg Flynn]
