Matte Dooley Johnston, 32, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at her home.
Matte was born in Moab, Utah, to Lee Loveridge and Alan Dooley on May 23, 1985. As a young child, she adored spending time with her big brother, Caleb, and younger brother, Sloan. Every day was a new adventure spent exploring the hills behind their house. Matte welcomed her beautiful daughter, Nevaeh Lee, into her world in April 2005 and spent the next 12 years devoted to being a wonderful mother. In 2008, she met and married the love of her life, Michael Hank Johnston, who would adopt Nevaeh and complete their family. When Matte came into Michael’s life, she was the missing puzzle piece that completed him and brought joy to the entire Johnston family.
Like her mother, Matte touched so many lives. She was a nurturer who looked after any animal or child with passion and love. Matte was a true friend. She was kind, free-spirited and strong-willed. Her blunt personality never failed to bring you back to what was important in life. Family and friends were the center of her life and what brought her the most joy.
One thing she looked forward to was traveling. She talked about everything from simple road trips to exploring the world. Her most recent plan was to travel to Ireland in the near future. Matte was an old soul whose generation never suited her. From the clothes she wore to the music she played, to the way she lived her life, Matte marched to her own beat.
She was a kind and wonderful person whose life was too short. She had a contagious smile that everyone who knew her would never forget.
Matte is survived by her husband Mike; daughter Nevaeh; brothers Caleb and Sloan; stepmom Betty Freeman; stepsisters Lisa Pacheco and Cheryl Webster; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Lee and her father Alan.
A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, November 25, at the Grand Center, 182 N. 500 West, at 2 p.m.
