The Grand County High School swimming team placed a distant second to Emery in both the boys and girls divisions at a four-team meet in Castle Dale on Tuesday, Nov. 14, which also included North Sanpete and South Sevier.
The Spartan girls scored 402 points to Grand’s 161, while the Spartan boys had 375 to the Red Devils’ 278.
The Red Devils had a trio of swimmers who won multiple individual events, led by Mary Kimmerle, who won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:30.70 and the 100-yard freestyle at 59.47, besting the next competitor by more than 10 seconds. For the boys, Connor Ainge won the 200-yard freestyle at 2:16.83 and the 500-yard freestyle at 6:32.98, and Braxten Pierce won the 100-yard freestyle at 52.70 and the 100-yard backstroke at 1:03.69.
Brooklin Hugentobler placed third in the girls 50-yard freestyle at 31.53. Freshman Mona Taylor was right behind her in fourth at 32.62. Taylor also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:11.03.
Dallin Stucki placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:27.55 and Corbin Arbon placed second in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.25.
The Red Devils were scheduled to host Gunnison, Millard and Carbon on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Moab. Grand is next scheduled to compete at Richfield on Monday, Nov. 27, at 3:30 p.m.
