Utah VFW State Judge Advocate Mark Luddington (right) presented a plaque to 102-year-old World War II veteran Kay Thompson Stoye on Saturday, Oct. 7, as Korean War veteran Dorothy Rossignol (left) looked on.
Utah Honor Flight organized the special presentation at the Canyonlands Care Center to honor Stoye – a company commander in the U.S. Coast Guard SPARS Women’s Reserve – and Rossignol, an 87-year-old Navy WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) member.
Mayor Dave Sakirson paid tribute to the two veterans, and Utah VFW representatives Nick Flake and Darryl Root also attended the ceremony.
“I just want to say thank you very much, not only for your service to this country, but your service to this city,” Sakrison said. “You’re an example for all of us, and all these young people, and this is your day.”
