Ruth Burraston, March 6, 1922 – September 16, 2017

Ruth Burraston passed away peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

Ruth was our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was an attentive listener and confidant, and had many words of wisdom for all. She was an iconic seamstress in Moab, a staple in the community and a loved neighbor and a friend to everyone. She was the stitches in our family tapestry.

Ruth was born on March 6, 1922, in Salt Lake City to Charles Henry Farnworth and Agnes Emerald Elison. She was the oldest of six children. At the age of 16, her father was killed and her mother injured and in a coma from a car accident. She had to plan the funeral for her father. She then quit school to care for her mother and siblings.

Ruth married James George Stratton, Jr. on June 15, 1939, in the Salt Lake temple. To this union were born two children, Marie and Jim. Her husband passed away on November 7, 1940. She had Jim after her husband’s death, so at the age of 19 she was a widow with two small children to raise alone.

On June 16, 1945, Ruth married Stanley Ray Burraston in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union four more children were born: Connie, Linda, Norman, and Lawrence. Her husband was killed in a construction accident on June 28, 1958. This left her to raise four more children alone once more.

She moved and lived in several different locations for a while, but in 1977 she settled in Moab, Utah. Here she improved and built up a thriving sewing business.

She is survived by her children: Marie Stocks (Jerry), Connie Larrabee, Lawrence Burraston (Jaime), all of Moab; Linda Keyes (Fred) of Henefer, Utah; Jim Stratton (Joyce) of Riverton, Utah; and Norman Burraston (Debbie) of Erda, Utah; 27 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by both parents, stepfather, all five siblings: Theada, Dean, Rex, Richard, and Larry; and a granddaughter, Joy Lynn Larrabee.

Funeral services will take place as follows: Viewings will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spanish Valley Mortuary and Friday September 22, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the 400 North LDS building. Services will follow at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest in the Goshen, Utah, Cemetery on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at noon.

She is now retired from all of her cares and worries and is at rest. Job well done!
