Ramona Jane (Ehlinger) Norton, April 12, 1929 – June 28, 2017

Heaven received a beautiful angel on June 28, 2017.

Ramona Jane Norton was born on April 12,1929, in Gillett, Wisconsin, to Joseph Ferdnand and Henrietta (Hoeffs) Ehlinger. She had four brothers, Elzmer; DeLue; Merlyn; and Duane, and a sister, Sandy, all of Michigan.

Ramona grew up in Wisconsin and Michigan, where she met Wayne Norton. They wed on August 25, 1945, at the tender ages of 16 and 19. They shared almost 72 years together in their life adventure. To their union were born Sheryl Lee, William Joseph, Lynn Kathryn, Gregory Wayne and Alan Duane.

After Wayne served in the Navy and graduated from college, he started working for the National Park Service. Together they enjoyed many years of Park Service life, living at Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, The Great Smoky Mountains, Montezuma Well, Great Sand Dunes, Arches and Padre Island. When they retired, they returned to Moab.

Through the years, Ramona worked at many jobs, from homemaker to retail sales, and retired from The Hogan in 2013. She never met a stranger and had many lifelong friends that she always kept in touch with, whether it was a phone call, a visit or a yearly Christmas card.

She dearly loved her husband “Wayno,” her children, grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren, as well as her church, bingo, Ladies of Elks and work families.

Ramona was preceded in death by her daughter Sheryl; grandson Joe Christensen; and brothers Elzmer and DeLue Ehlinger.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her sons Bill (Deb), Greg (Ingrid) and Alan (Sandy); and her daughter Lynn (Jim). She is also survived by her grandchildren Wyllie, Wendy, Wayne, Trin, Travis, Bjorn, Rabea, Stephen and Jacque; great-grandchildren Damian, Shanice, Magic, Justice, Tiffany, Ian, Kannon, Michael, Shantell, Lily Ann and Isaiah; and great-great-grandchildren Leah Jetter and Mila Jay.

Catholic services were held on Monday, July 3, at St. Pius Catholic Church, followed by a viewing and a vigil.
