Grand County Middle School’s September Students of the Month are Elly Bauer and Paige Shumway.
Elly is the daughter of Dominic and Shannon Bauer, who moved to Moab from Alaska this past June. Elly is in eighth grade.
Paige is the daughter of Brook and Brandy Shumway. Paige is in seventh grade.
The seventh- and eighth-grade teachers chose Elly and Paige as September’s Students of the Month because of their great starts to a new school year.
“Both girls are enthusiastic, friendly and cooperative,” they said. “They both get involved with
class participation, are able to stay focused, have excellent role modeling skills for other students to follow, and show examples continuously of citizenship – what it looks and acts like.”
Elly’s “absolutely most favorite thing” is art, and she loves cats and birds.
She has hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and then back up to the top. Elly has worked as a waitress at a restaurant in Alaska.
Elly’s advice to students is, “Think before you act. Be friendly and try your best with anything and everything.”
Paige loves to play softball, volleyball and basketball, and she loves to go hunting.
She loves spending time with her family and she feels she is a responsible person.
Paige’s advice to students is, “Win the war, not the battle. A war is simply a series of battles, so don’t think you have to win every fight.”
