Jody Bierschied, June 23, 1950 – June 2, 2016

Joe Dell ” Jody” Bierschied, 65, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2016, at the San Juan Hospital in Monticello with his loved ones at his side.

Jody was born on June 23, 1950, in Gilman, Colorado, to Joe Dell Sr. and Jessamine “Jackie” Weaver- Bierschied. Jody worked at many different occupations throughout his life, from farming and mining, to careers as a heavy equipment owner/ operator and a real-estate lender. More recently, he retired from working as a mining reclamation specialist for Rio Algom. Jody enjoyed cooking and operated a food vendor trailer and served the community at Lake Powell.

Jody married Karen Simpson in 1969 and had two children, Troy “Dirk” and Tamara “Tami” Bierschied. He later married Julie Nunn in 1977 and had two daughters, Tiffany and Tara.

Jody loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and ATV enthusiast. Some of his favorite hobbies were camping, fishing, boating, sightseeing, traveling, gardening, woodworking, board games and enjoying time with his grandchildren, just to name a few.

Jody is survived by his wife Julie of Moab; daughters Tami Woodruff of Moab, Tiffany Swafford of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Tara Bierschied of La Sal; three brothers: Carl of Oregon, David and Kim of Moab; and seven grandchildren: Lacey, Sabrina, Brekken, Christian, Chase, Porter and Ian.

He was preceded in death by his son Troy “Dirk” Bierschied in 1986; his parents Joe and Jessamine; his stepfather Hugh Wheeler; and his sibling Jamie and brother Billy.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary. A viewing will take place one hour prior to service. A potluck luncheon will follow the service at the Rotary Park.
