I-70 pileup injures numerous people

A multi-car pileup on Interstate 70 near the town of Green River on Wednesday, Nov. 4, sent numerous people to the hospital, including one person who was listed in critical condition. Several inches of hail and slush fell on the roadway during a strong storm, and an eastbound Toyota 4Runner lost control due to the roadway conditions at about 6:30 p.m. that night. The 4Runner hit the Green River bridge guardrail, causing it to spin into the middle of the river bridge, where it came to a stop near milepost 163. An eastbound Ford F150 collided with the 4Runner, and then several other vehicles became involved in the collision. Visibility was extremely poor and drivers were unable to stop before becoming involved in the collision. Four semi-tractor trailer vehicles and five passenger vehicles were involved in the accident. Three people were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, with various injuries; one patient was in critical condition. Several other people were transported to the Green River Medical Center for treatment.
