Grand County High School students Robin Willscheidt-Johnson and Savannah Hurley won first place in their respective categories at the regional Sterling Scholar competition in Monticello on Thursday, March 26. Willscheidt-Johnson took the top prize for Speech and Drama, while Hurley finished first in Social Science. GCHS runners-up were Jamie Marshall in Skills and Technical Education, Sommer Hutchinson in Family and Consumer Science, Katie McFarland in Dance and Delaney Manley in Visual Arts. Each of the 14 Sterling Scholar categories named one winner and two runners-up at the competition, which featured dozens of top seniors from high schools throughout southeast Utah – each of whom spent months preparing for the event. Rebecca Minor also competed for GCHS in Science.
