A red fox and her pup photographed in the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area on Monday, June 2. The red fox feeds on small mammals, lizards, birds and bugs. Fruit and vegetable matter is also eaten sometimes. Red Fox are considered non-native to the area and prey upon the smaller native kit fox or desert fox. Red fox are relatively abundant, while the kit desert fox are now on the Utah BLM sensitive species list. [Photo by Mike Newbold for the Moab Sun News]
