Jane Cherryholmes collects electronics and alkaline batteries during Canyonlands Community Recycling collection drive at WabiSabi’s Thriftique store on Saturday, Nov. 2. This year’s drive set the record for the most weight collected. Local businesses and individuals brought 13,758 pounds of electronics waste and batteries that was collected by Metech Recycling of Salt Lake City. This event has been held the first Saturday of May and November since 2011 and has kept more than 52,000 pounds of electronics and batteries out of the local landfill. All materials will be salvaged in the United States and 95-percent of the materials – glass, plastics and metals – can be returned to the manufacturing stream.
