A Grand County Sheriff’s deputy is now in custody at the San Juan County Jail on a charge of attempted homicide after a violent dispute involving his family in Moab.
Moab City Police responded to an altercation that was “domestic violence related”, according to a press release, shortly after midnight on Friday, July 12. Timothy “T.J.” Brewer was arrested in Moab, then transported to the San Juan County Jail in Monticello. He is being held with no bail.
His father, Corky Brewer, was taken to Moab Regional Hospital for treatment. He was then sent to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colo.
“He was transported to Grand Junction in stable condition,” said Tracy Harris of Moab Regional Hospital.
The nature of Corky Brewer’s injuries have not been released to the public.
Timothy Brewer has also been charged with one count of aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in front of a child, assault on a police officer, one count of intoxication and one count of disorderly conduct.
Timothy Brewer has been a Grand County Sheriff’s Deputy since 2001.
Brewer’s family has had a long history of working in public safety within Grand County.
His father, Corky Brewer, has been the Moab Valley Fire Department fire chief since 1989. In addition, his uncle Curt Brewer is a sheriff’s deputy and his aunt Connie Haycock is the director of the Children’s Justice Center, a cousin who works for the Moab Police Department, and another cousin was recently recognized as the Firefighter of the Year by the Moab Valley Fire Department. Moab City Police chief Mike Navarre had been formerly married to Timothy Brewer’s aunt.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
Attempted homicide is a first degree felony. Aggravated assault and domestic violence in front of a child are third degree felonies. Assault on an officer is a class A misdemeanor. Intoxication and disorderly conduct are class C misdemeanors.
Sgt. Erik Knutzen of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office investigation’s unit said that his office will be conducting the investigation related to the incident.
“Our family appreciates everyone’s concern and support,” said Doricca Brewer, an aunt of Timothy Brewer. “Please don’t jump to conclusions and please continue to be supportive to allow the family to heal.”
