Pat Wurcherer is now gathering stories for the 2014 Cancer Survivor Calendar.
“The reason I started doing this is to get more communication between cancer patients and their friends and families,” Wurcherer said.
She is looking for cancer survivors who will write their own stories and share a photo.
“We like to have everything in by the middle of March, so we can calendars printed and available to sell before 2014,” Wurcherer said.
Half of the sales of the calendar will go to the Moab Regional hospital Infusion Center. The other half goes to producing the calendar two years from now.
Wurcherer started producing the calendar in 2008. She was able to produce the first one with a $500 grant from WabiSabi and individual donations. She has produced one each even year: 2010 and 2012.
“Since then it has paid for itself with the sales,” Wurcherer said.
Wurcherer is a cancer survivor. She had two bouts with breast cancer: One in 1978; the other in 1995. She had a mastectomy and followed with chemotherapy each time.
“I want to encourage others to talk and show how we are surviving with health and humor,” she said.
Moab photographer Dan Norris has worked with Wurcherer each year to help her create the calendar.
“I feel like I’m asking him a lot to do this every year, but he’s willing to do it,” Wurcherer said.
She also wants cancer survivors to know about a survivor group that meets the first Monday of the each month.
“Call me, because the location varies,” she said.
