Residents interested in running in this year’s Moab election for mayor or city council have until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, to file their candidacy for the upcoming municipal election. The positions on the ballot include the mayor and two city council seats, each with a four-year term. All offices are at-large and nonpartisan.

Early candidate declarations are already being posted on the Moab City website – current Mayor Joette Langianese and Councilmember Jason Taylor will run to retain their positions. Former Grand County Commissioner Curtis Wells has thrown his hat in the ring for mayor and local contractor Miles Loftin has registered for the council ballot.

Candidates must submit their declaration of candidacy in person at the Moab City Recorder’s Office, located at 217 E. Center Street. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is recommended that candidates complete the necessary paperwork in advance and bring it in unsigned.

To qualify, candidates must be U.S. citizens, registered voters in Moab, and residents of the city for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election. Individuals convicted of a felony, treason, or a crime against the elective franchise are ineligible to hold office until their rights are restored.

The general Moab election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4 and will be conducted by mail.
