“It’s Still a Good World” | Letter to the Editor

In his recent letter published here, Mike Suarez beautifully articulated the thoughts of many of our friends and family about the need, at this challenging time, for loving behavior. This is really the only power we have right now, and it’s a strong power.

Small encounters — smiles to strangers, jokes with market staff, kind words to restaurant waiters, sharing of experiences with hikers met on the trail — all create connection and the sense that it’s still a good world.

Let’s understand, too, that regardless of one’s political beliefs or feelings about social issues, to become a point of light (to be a one-person little lighthouse, in a sense) is much needed at all times. The sanity of this country, and of the world, begins with each of us. Thank you, Mike.
