Geiger counters in downtown Moab

Engineers Syndicate, a Geiger counter and scintillator distributor, had offices in Hollywood, California and Grand Junction Colorado. The company also had a home at 337 N. Main Street in Moab. The business advertised themselves as the “most experienced supplier to the uranium industry” selling combination scintillators, an instrument used to detect and measure ionizing radiation, for the home user and amateur prospector for $595 in 1955 (which would be just over $7,000 today).

The Moab Museum is dedicated to sharing stories of the natural and human history of the Moab area. To explore more of Moab’s stories and artifacts, find out about upcoming programs, and become a Member, visit www.moabmuseum.org.
