Hola and miau mis amigos, it’s Cosmo the Library Cat! We have many thrilling events coming up at the Grand County Public Library, all celebrating the month of October!
First up, our amigas and amigos from the Moab Valley Multicultural Center (MVMC) will be helping out with two fun story times this month. There’s a bilingual toddler time on Wednesday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m., with stories and songs in English and in Spanish. The librarians work hard to choose topics that are interesting to everyone, and I think they’ve really knocked it out of the park this time — the books will be all about cats. “Kitten’s First Full Moon” or “La Primera Luna Llena de Gatita,” and “Los Gatos Black on Halloween.” I am expecting all attendees to learn how to say the following phrases in both Spanish and English: “Cats are amazing!”; “Cats have so much to teach us!”; and “Have you ever seen such a handsome cat?”
Two days later on Friday, October 18 at 2:30 p.m., we will have another bilingual storytime celebrating Dia de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, a special holiday honoring ancestors that is observed in Mexico and Central America. After sharing some stories and music, we’ll decorate sugar skulls. To finish out the multilingual month, the library will host a free showing of the movie “Coco” on Friday October 25 at 2:00 p.m. All ages are welcome.
Finally, our Musical Story Hour is back for another round, this time with a Halloween theme! You’ll want to be here on Saturday, October 26 at 10:30 a.m. when Kate Clark and Nicole Cornlieus share their fun, interactive music, stories, and games, thanks to a partnership with the Moab Music Festival. As a special bonus, participants can bring home their own musical sticks so that they can create rhythm and music whenever they want. What the heck is a musical stick, you might ask? I don’t know either. I guess we’ll have to show up to find out!
