Suspect named in La Sal murders

A man confessed to killing Moab couple Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner before committing suicide, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office has reported. The two women were shot at their campsite in the La Sal Mountains last August.

In a May 11 statement, the sheriff’s office named Adam Pinkusiewicz as a suspect in the murders which rocked the Moab community. Pinkusiewicz was a former employee at the McDonald’s where Turner worked and fled the state shortly after the crime.

The Moab community held a vigil to mourn Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner on Aug. 22.

“[T]he GCSO learned that Adam Pinkusiewicz was in the La Sals and Moab at the time of the homicides,” the statement said. Officials made numerous attempts to locate Pinkusiewicz before discovering he had died, the office said.

“[P]rior to committing suicide, Pinkusiewicz told another party that he had killed two women in Utah,” the Sherrif’s Office said. Reportedly, the suspect provided details of the crime not made public.

Officials said the case is not closed. Anyone with information regarding Pinkusiewicz or his vehicle, a black 2007 Yaris, should call the sheriff’s office at 435-259-8115.
