Obituary: Elizabeth Ann Kirkpatrick Stocks, July 24, 1939 – March 13, 2022

Elizabeth Ann Kirkpatrick Stocks was born on July 24, 1939, to Hilldred Wilder Kirkpatrick and Eunice Agnus Birchwood Kirkpatrick in Jacksonville, Florida. She was raised in Jacksonville and spoke fondly of the fun childhood she had.

Liz loved her family. Even as a small child family was everything to her. She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren. She would spend hours baking for her family and friends. Teaching her grandkids to bake was one of the highlights of her life. She loved Christmas time and gathering with her family to make Christmas treats.

Liz taught school for 39 years, mostly in Moab. She loved teaching and put countless hours into lesson plans and activities for her school kids. She truly remembered every child she taught. Even as she was in the hospital her last few weeks of life, she remembered some of the nurses she had taught as children. She was invested in their learning and their futures. She was a wonderful teacher and made a difference in the lives of all those she taught.

She left this life peacefully after a 10-year struggle with Parkinson’s. With her family by her side, she quietly passed from this life to the next. I can only imagine her joy to be with her son, Jim; both of her parents, her sister, Joan; and countless other family members. She will be missed beyond measure.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jim; her parents, Hill (Margaret) Kirkpatrick and Eunice (Tim) Rochester; her sister, Joan (Donald) Melton; her nephew, Creig Buhler; her sister-in-law, Bethale (Jack) Lawley and brother-in-law, Lyle (Janice) Stocks.

Liz is survived by her daughter-in-law Sherri, Jim’s wife; her son Matt and wife Cindy; her daughter Chy and husband Phillip; and grandchildren Brandi, Karli, Coleman, Kaden, Madi, Halli, Madeline, Bradley, Kelcea, Jonathan, Cortney, Eyan and Keeley; her sister, Sally Schroeder; her brother David (Carol) Rochester; her sister, Susan Rochester; her sister-in-law Mary (Larry) Johnson; her great-grandchildren Londyn, Abi, Maggie, Everly, Swaye, Royce, Rory, Scarlett, Tala, Indi, Catalina and Liesel; and by countless nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held on March 25 at 11 a.m. at the Moab Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel (475 West 400 North). Burial will be on March 26 1 p.m. at the Ivins City Cemetery. You may send condolences to the family at www.spanishvalleymortuary.com.
